Why Senco Gold wants Melorra

Senco said the deal fits its digital and omnichannel strategy and is aimed at the fast-growing segment of younger buyers. It expects Melorra's design and e-commerce capabilities to complement its own strengths and to produce operating synergies.

The money raised will fund August Jewellery's growth and expansion and clear existing liabilities. The acquisition needs no government or regulatory approval.

What to watch

For an established jeweller, buying a digital-first brand is a quicker route to younger customers than building one. The harder part is the one every omnichannel strategy runs into: running a heritage store network and an online-led design brand side by side without either diluting the other.
